A N.C. Civil War Trails Marker is located on the grounds of the museum. The history of Lewis’s Railroad Raid, whose purpose was to demolish the Wilmington/Weldon railroad track, is given in great detail. The Civil War, the deadliest war in American History, divided our great nation. This war revolutionized railroads, telegraphs, steamships, and the ability to mass produce weapons. By the end of this war, 620,000 soldiers and an unknown amount of civilian lives were lost. Memorabilia from the bloodiest war ever fought on our soil is located in our Civil War exhibit.
